They say the devil is always hidden in the details of a document, and in this case the Trump peace plan risks sharing the fate of the previous ones because of the hidden bombshells in the fine print.
The 28 point peace document hides at least two provisions that, based on everything known so far about the positions of the involved sides, will be very difficult to accept. This gives grounds for rejecting it, since they concern the delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine as a security guarantee, a provision unacceptable for Russia, and the amnesty and protection of President Volodymyr Zelensky from any prosecution for corruption along with a blank check for the persecution of political opponents.
The first of the leaks that causes shock appears shortly before the United States ultimatum to Ukraine expires regarding the acceptance or rejection of the third consecutive Trump peace plan, and concerns the delivery of Tomahawk to Kyiv after a ceasefire, according to information from the American newspaper The Washington Post.
As David Ignatius, the columnist of the newspaper, reports citing sources, the American administration recognizes that the security guarantees for Ukraine, which are included in the 28 point plan, are not sufficiently reliable.
“The sovereignty of Ukraine cannot under any circumstance be put at risk,” one of the key officials told the newspaper’s journalist.
According to the sources, President Donald Trump may reconsider the provision that limits the strength of the Ukrainian armed forces to 600 thousand troops, and the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine is being examined as one of the elements of the American security guarantees to Kyiv.
“Russia will not agree to the deployment of European troops in Ukraine after the ceasefire.
Instead of this, American officials are considering the possibility of providing Ukraine with Tomahawk as an alternative,” Ignatius writes.

They will not be used preventively
He also emphasized that the Americans are certain that Ukraine will not use these missiles preventively against Russia, because such a move would cost it the support of the United States and Europe.
One of the officials told WP that preserving the sovereignty of Ukraine remains a nonnegotiable priority for the United States, since undermining it would create serious risks for the entirety of Europe. According to the source, Washington is not considering scenarios that could lead to the breakup of Ukraine.
He also added that the Trump administration fully supports, at 100 percent, the continued provision of intelligence to Ukraine and remains open to discussing the peace plan.
It is recalled that in the Trump plan, which was published in the media, there is a reference to a prohibition on Ukraine conducting long range preventive strikes against Russia.
“If Ukraine launches a missile toward Moscow or Saint Petersburg without reason, the security guarantees become void,” the plan states, and according to one of the American officials who spoke to the newspaper, it may be revised in the coming days.

The amnesty in the American plan will protect Zelensky from investigation for any corruption case while the blank check will allow him to carry out crackdowns against internal political opponents
The amnesty provision was included in the new American plan for resolving the Ukrainian conflict, with the aim of protecting President Volodymyr Zelensky and the members of his government from investigation related to a corruption case in the energy sector, writes WP.
“In the plan a provision for postwar amnesty was added at the request of Ukraine, in order to ensure that Zelensky and the members of his government will not face investigation,” the report states.
The Ukrainian outlet Strana.ua, citing its own sources, reported that President of the United States Donald Trump may use the influence of the United States on the Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Bureau NABU (National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine) and on SAP (Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office) in order to halt all corruption investigations against Zelensky and his circle if Kyiv accepts the American peace plan.
It is also reported that, in the event the plan is accepted, Trump will allow Zelensky to carry out crackdown operations against internal political opponents and that after the acceptance of the plan elections will be held in Ukraine within 100 days after the signing of the agreement.
