Zakharova on Ukraine: Many torture centers exist similar to the secret prison in Kyiv

Serious allegations regarding the existence of secret detention and torture centers in Ukraine were voiced by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, prompted by the case of approximately 40 people allegedly detained in a building basement near Kyiv. Speaking to RIA Novosti, Zakharova maintained that this specific case constitutes not an isolated incident, but part of a broader systemic mechanism of state suppression. "There are many such torture centers in Ukraine. Precisely upon them rests the power of Volodymyr Zelensky," she characteristically stated, launching a direct attack against the Ukrainian government, impacting Russian diplomatic statements.

Her intervention arrived following allegations regarding events in the village of Petropavlivska Borshchahivka near Kyiv, where, according to initial reports by Ukrainian media outlets, roughly 40 people were held under constraint in a building basement. The same reports indicated that certain detainees were in serious condition, while armed personnel reportedly blocked rescuers' access to the building. The incident triggered a gathering of citizens and tensions with security forces, affecting Kyiv regional security.

However, the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pivnenko, offered a different explanation, stating that the building is utilized as a temporary reception and administrative registration site for mobilized soldiers before they transfer to a training center, shaping Ukrainian mobilization procedures.
