Albin Kurti defiant after election victory in Kosovo, launches fierce attack on Serbia and Russia
Kurti spoke of "threats" originating from Serbia, which he described as an "autonomous regime" that could, under Russian influence, attempt to destabilize the region.

Albin Kurti appeared defiant toward Serbia following his clear victory in the Kosovo elections, accusing the country of attempts to destabilize the region under Russian influence. In the elections held on December 28, the Vetevendosje party, led by the nationalist Albin Kurti, won nearly 50% of the vote, marking one of the largest victories in Kosovo's history and paving the way for the formation of a government after months of political deadlock.

The result occurred in snap elections held after the failure to form a government following the February elections, which had led to a political stalemate. According to the results, four more parties will enter the Kosovo Assembly. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) came in second with 21.07%, while the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) received 13.85% and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) 5.83%. Serbs will be represented in parliament with 10 seats, and other ethnic minorities will hold the same number of seats.

Kurti emphasized that "the people and the Republic of Kosovo have won" and called on other parties, including those of minority communities, to cooperate in nation-building and the advancement of international agreements in the interest of the citizens.

Defiant message toward Serbia

In his statements both before and after his electoral success, Kurti reiterated the need for the normalization of relations with Serbia. As he has stated, this process presupposes, in practice, the de facto recognition of Kosovo and respect from Belgrade, including the handover of specific individuals considered responsible for tensions in northern Kosovo.

At the same time, he pointed out the "threats" that, in his view, originate from Serbia, which he described as an "autonomous regime" that may, under Russian influence, try to destabilize the region. In past confrontations, Kurti has accused Serbia of attempting to interfere in Kosovo's internal electoral processes through "promises of jobs and economic benefits," characterizing such actions as impermissible interference.

The path toward European integration as an answer to tensions

Kurti insists that strengthening Kosovo's path toward the European Union and other Euro-Atlantic structures is a response to the challenges attributed to Serbia. He has stressed that security threats in the region must be addressed in a manner similar to that applied to other countries in the area, promoting Kosovo's candidacy and accession as a means of stability and recognition.

Despite the clear victory and political momentum, open issues remain regarding the stability of the government, relations with ethnic minorities—particularly the Serbian community in northern Kosovo—and the management of tensions with Serbia that continue to affect the country's economy and international relations.
